Grant Scheme for the Revitalization of Rural, Mountainous, and Border Areas through the Creation of Authentic Experiences
The total budget for the years 2024 and 2025 amounts to €4 million. The application submission has been completed.
The Plan aims to strengthen the local economy and enhance the visitor experience. The ultimate goal is to increase visitation to the hinterland.
Eligible beneficiaries are Natural and Legal Persons engaged in economic activity, whose proposed investment is located in the geographic area of application.
Depending on the geographic area of the accommodation, the grant percentage is as follows:
1. Mountainous and remote areas: 75% grant
2. Rural areas: 65% grant
3. Other areas facing tourism disadvantages: 50% grant
*The remaining percentage pertains to the applicant's own contribution.
The maximum grant amount is €300,000 and the minimum proposed investment amount is €10,000.
Categories of Eligible Expenses
- Upgrade of existing infrastructures and configuration of spaces to make them visitable or/and host experiential workshops, in the following indicative themes:
(i) Gastronomy, including the creation of new or/and upgrade/renovation of existing tasting rooms, excluding wine tasting,
(ii) Cypriot handicrafts (e.g., basket weaving, embroidery, ceramics, loom), artistic creation (e.g., painting, sculpture, mosaic)
- Upgrade of existing infrastructures and configuration of spaces to make them visitable for hosting artists/musicians for collaboration and the creation and exhibition of their works to the public.
- Enhancement of the offered experience in existing visitable premises (e.g., Visitor Centers, Environmental Information Centers, exhibition spaces of folk art, tradition, contemporary Cypriot art, etc.).
- Landscaping of outdoor spaces
- Creation, enrichment, or/and upgrade of infrastructures, provided services/activities such as for example:
(i) Climbing, exercise with adventure tracks of various difficulty levels for adults and children, outdoor exercise areas including for the elderly/disabled, mountain biking skill course with obstacles (mountain bike obstacle course),
(ii) Trails for the disabled
(iii) Thematic trails based on myths/fairy tales of the area/Cyprus
(iv) Mountain bike lift units,
(v) Cycling centers
