Grant Scheme to Encourage Projects for the Quality and Aesthetic Upgrade of Beaches (2023 - 2025)

Implementation Period

* The scheme for 2025 is closed.
 ** Equipment must be purchased by September 30, 2025.
 *** Projects that require a planning permit and building permit must be completed by October 30, 2025.

Purpose

To encourage projects that aim to upgrade the quality and aesthetics of beaches.
 To enhance safety, improve organization, and allow the purchase of equipment in order to raise the quality and visual appeal of the services provided on beaches.

Eligible Beneficiaries

  • Local Authorities (Municipalities and Community Councils)

Grant and Categories of Eligible Expenses

  • The maximum grant amount will not exceed 75% of the total expenditure, up to €80,000 per Municipality and €30,000 per Community Council.
  • For the Tylliria region, the grant rate is set at 85%.

Eligible investments must fall under the following project categories and expenses, provided they align with the Approved Beach Use Plan of the Central Beach Committee:

a. Design, construction, and installation of signage, preferably made of natural materials that harmonize with the environment, including QR Codes with useful information about the beach in five languages (EN, GR, RU, FR, DE).
 b. Construction and/or renovation of public sanitary facilities, located outside the beach protection zone (e.g., changing rooms / baby care areas).

  • New facilities must be accessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and comply with all current health and safety standards and obtain all required permits from the competent authorities.
     c. Water coolers for beaches participating in the Plastic Free Beaches program.
     d. Trash / recycling bins with a minimum capacity of 50 liters.
     e. Beach umbrellas, sunbeds, and tables with ashtrays and/or compartments for personal belongings.
     f. Sand cleaning machines suitable for the characteristics of each local authority’s beaches.
     g. Infrastructure for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs):
    i.
    Ramps (specifications must be submitted and approved by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism).
    ii. Plastic or wooden pathways with a minimum width of 1.5 m (must also be approved by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism).
    iii. Amphibious wheelchair.
    iv. Autonomous sea access systems.
    v. Shelters for wheelchairs.
    vi. Handrails on beach access points.
    vii. Signs for the visually impaired (including Braille).
    viii. Additions to existing sanitary facilities to serve people with disabilities.
